AMEER'S ADDRESS
All praises and adorations are due to Allah, the Creator of all of earth and mankind, the Lord of all seven heavens and the Master of the day of judgement. May his endless peace and blessings be upon the noble prophet Muhammad (SAW), his family, his household, his companions, and all those who follow his footpath until the day of recompense.
I welcome us all to the 1442/1443 A.H tenure of the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN), UCH Branch. This new tenure aspires to achieve wholesomeness and utmost involvement of her members, where every member benefits from and is carried along in the activities of the society maximally. No tenure is perfect, we hope that Allah grants us guidance through this journey and also eases our affairs. Aameen.
Allah (SWT)says in the Qur’an
[51:56]
“And I have not created the jinns
and the men except that they should serve me”
Our main purpose as
creations of Allah(SWT) is none other than to serve Him as illustrated in the
above-stated verse and indeed in several other verses in the holy book. What
better way to serve Allah (SWT)than to first seek right knowledge on how to
serve Him and then subsequently putting into practice the things we learn through
the course of seeking this knowledge. As young men and women in our youthful
days, there is no better time to do this than now.
The Prophet (SAW)
advised to:
“Take benefit of
five before five: Your youth before your old age, your health before your sickness,
your wealth before your poverty, your free time before you are preoccupied, and
your life before your death”. (Narrated by Ibn Abbas and reported by Al Hakim)
This hadith is self-explanatory and undoubtedly applies to us. Each of the five before five, if pondered upon with an unbiased mind, speak to us especially as young students. The society has provided some platforms to enable her members equip themselves with some of the basic knowledge of the deen that would ease our day-to-day ‘ibadaat. These include and are not limited to: Da’wah enlightenment programmes, Sisters’ circle programmes, Madrasah, and Islamic training forums. Also, important attention should be paid to the basic and subtle entities that hold our faith in one piece and serves as the foundation of our faith. Some of these include the five obligatory prayers, obligatory and voluntary fasts, adhkaars, tahajjuds and so on.
Academics are also a major priority for us as Muslim health students. Islam as a religion enjoins its ummah in excellence and diligence in our respective fields. Muslims are seen as personalities with a love for knowledge, passion for their studies or work, and discipline and correct attitude towards work and their peers. All of these are virtues that can be emulated from the prophet who is considered a paragon of virtues in Islam. He (the prophet), through his actions, taught us to manage our time properly, be disciplined and hardworking, and to ensure we get the most out of our free time. Applying these to our academic lives would help us not only excel academically but also in other aspects of our lives.
Finally, Allah(SWT)
says in the holy Qur’an [3:103]
“And hold fast,
all of you together, to the rope of Allah, and be not divided among
yourselves…”
A beauty of the religion is the amount of blessings there is in staying united as an ummah and encouraging ourselves in good. From saying the teslim to each other, to reminding each other when it is time for prayers, to attending programmes and visitations together; within everyone of these acts of charity that we do with the right intention lies blessings from our Lord.
I welcome us all the tenure once again. We look forward to having all hands on deck for a successful year of working in the course of Allah(SWT). I enjoin us to approach our tasks and roles with the firm resolve that our efforts would be only for the sake of Allah (SWT) and that blessings lie await for those who carry out acts of kindness towards their Muslim brethren with pure intentions. We pray Allah (SWT) eases our affairs and grants us success in this life and in the hereafter. Aameen.
