Az-Zahraa: A Radiant Gathering of Sisters

On the 12th of Rabiul Thani, 1447 AH (4th October 2025), sisters from MSSN UCH, Agodi-Gate Area Council, and beyond came together for a truly radiant experience. The theme of this year’s MSSN UCH/AGAC Sisters’ Seminar was “Az-Zahraa”, the epithet of Fatimah Az-Zahraa (RadhiyaLlahu anha), the daughter of the Prophet . It was held at the UCH Central Mosque, with over 300 attendees present.

The programme began with the memorisation of a verse from the Qur’an, Surah An-Nur, verse 35, where Allah says:

“Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The example of His light is like a niche within which is a lamp, the lamp is within glass, the glass as if it were a pearly white star lit from the oil of a blessed olive tree, neither of the east nor of the west, whose oil would almost glow even if untouched by fire. Light upon light. Allah guides to His light whom He wills. And Allah presents examples for the people, and Allah is Knowing of all things.”

The keynote speech, delivered by Mrs. Baseerah Aderibigbe, author of Woman of Substance, focused on Fatimah Az-Zahraa and how her life and legacy serve as an inspiration and lesson for Muslim women everywhere. She spoke on how Fatimah Az-Zahraa (RadhiyaLlahu anha) balanced her life as an exemplary daughter, a loving wife, and a nurturing mother, all while giving utmost priority to the worship of her Rabb.

The chief host, Mrs. Marufat Hamzah, Ameerah of MSSN Oyo Area Unit, addressed the attendees on the importance of gatherings that bring young Muslimahs together to learn and grow.

The health talk, delivered by Dr. Rasheedah Balogun, consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist, focused on reproductive health and awareness at the different stages of a woman’s life. She encouraged women to be informed about their bodies and urged the younger attendees to seek guidance from trusted female adults. She also emphasised the importance of seeking medical care early whenever any abnormal changes are noticed.

For the relationship talk titled “Bridges, Not Walls: Conflict Resolution in Sisterly Ties and Spousal Bonds”, three panellists—Dr. Shakeerah Gbadebo (consultant restorative dentist), Mrs. Lateefah Adewumi Jumah of Laj Fingers, and Barr. Raheesah Shittu—educated the audience on practical tips for conflict resolution. They explained how to avoid being overbearing while still expressing one’s thoughts confidently and respectfully.

As the saying goes, all work and no play makes Jane a dull girl. The seminar was not just about learning; it also featured games and giveaways, creating a warm and friendly environment for sisters to connect and have fun.

One of the highlights of the event was the book sale. The book Woman of Substance, authored by the keynote speaker, was available at a discounted price. Her second book, Fabricated Freedom, was also available for purchase.

Other vendors also showcased their goods, including clothes, accessories, snacks, and perfumes.

And of course, no gathering is complete without refreshments. Attendees enjoyed delicious snacks, refreshing zobo, and the ever-popular jollof and fried rice. Jotters and sanitary pads were also given out as souvenirs.

Events like this are essential for cultivating a sense of togetherness and shared purpose among Muslimahs, especially among young secondary school girls. We at MSSN UCH and Agodi-Gate Area Council express our heartfelt appreciation to everyone who supported this noble cause. To everyone who donated, raised awareness about the seminar, planned, volunteered, or contributed in any way to its success, we say, JazaakumuLlahu khayran. And to all the sisters who attended, JazaakumuLlahu khayran once again. Keep shining and being your radiant selves! ✨
