WE'RE IN LOVE

Well, congratulations! Love is a beautiful thing. It is an essential part of life, of existence… or so some say. But this love of yours is it well placed?

Are you in love with your creator and your deen? Are you in love with the Nabeey, his Sahaba or the Qur’an? Are you in love with the one who bore you for nine months or the ones from which you were brought out of the same womb?

You’re either not sure of your responses or you’re just out of a reflexive attempt to believe yourself. Well, good for you still. Now let us get more serious.

Are you in love? Or do you just believe you do?

Are you worth the love? Or do they deserve yours?

Would they wake you to observe Salat and ensure you take Sahoor? Would they be by you as you stand through the night saying your prayers to your Lord?

Are they even of your faith? Or do you intend to let love work things out?

Answer the questions and remember, your Lord sees all that lies in your heart.

Let me however, answer one of the questions for you and give you a hypothetical scenario.

Let us assume that they do not share your faith and what you want to do is let love work things out. How exactly do you intend to break the news to your parents, to your siblings, to the entire extended family? How do you recon they will respond to it? Will they tolerate it? Will they be happy with it?

Let us assume they take it not too harshly, that they decide to tolerate it. How do you intend to live the rest of your life knowing that you will forever become a source of some form of unhappiness because whether they admit it or not, you just are!

So you managed to pull it off, married to the person of your dreams, your true love. Against all odds. Nothing could stop you, not even the barriers of faith. Congratulations, you have unlocked a live ‘achievement’.

What next? Children!

Your even benevolent Lord then blesses you with children who will of course be confused which faith is the right faith. There is very little you can do there. Children will be children and they will explore. By the glory of your Lord, some may find their way back to you but inevitably, some will be lost to you and your faith. Then you have to live with the fact that an offspring of yours is a ‘Kafir’! Congratulations! Another live achievement! One that will haunt you till the day the sun rises from the west and we all have to stand before our lord to account for every action and inaction. Every word and decision. Every breath and mistake. Every second of every minute of our lifetime. How then do you intend to get through all that? Let love sort it out? Lol! Love will desert you! Your once true loves will have their brains boiling under the heat of the day. Love itself will desert you. You will be on your own. All your ‘life achievements’ against you. All the Salat you didn’t observe thanks to your one true love who saw no need to remind you. All the verses of the Qur’an you never recited or teach to your younglings will be against you.

Remember these before you fall in love. Before you unlock life achievements that will stand against you on ‘The day’. Before you say to yourself “we’re in love”.
