The First Ten of the Twelfth Month

Image
All praises and adorations are to Almighty Allah who created variations between times and moments by making some more beneficial than others. Dhul Hijja is the 12th month of the hijrah calendar. It is one of the holiest period of the Islamic year. It is a period that brings a lot of rewards to whoever takes advantage of being alive during this period. Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days." The people asked, "Not even jihad for the sake of Allah?" He said, "Not even jihad for the sake of Allah, except in the case of a man who went out to fight giving himself and his wealth up for the cause, and came back with nothing." (Reported by al-Bukhari, 2/457). Virtues of the first ten of Dhul Hijjah Performing hajj or not, it is one of the best periods to amass rewards and bles...

The Future of Learning

Image
What if we could all learn all whatever we were interested in with different learners only requiring varying amount of time to learn the same material and achieve the same mastery. This is in contrast with classic models of teaching that focus more on differences in students’ ability and students are given approximately the same amount of time to learn as well as the same set of instructions. Students should achieve a level of mastery in prerequisite knowledge before moving forward to learn subsequent information. While this may sound similar to the case in our traditional learning institutions there’s more to be offered by mastery learning. If a student does not achieve mastery on the test they can get additional support and resources in learning, review the information and then get tested again. This cycle can always continue until the learner accomplishes mastery then proceeds to the next stage. With mastery learning responsibilities shift, such that failure is co...

It is not just a natural sweetener but filled with numerous health benefits confirmed by Allah in the Holy Quran, the prophet in his hadiths, historians, and scientists. The collection of honey from bees could be traced as far back as 8,000 years ago when it has been used for human consumption, beverages, and medicine.  Although its composition may vary based on the type of flower nectar that the honeybee produces the honey from but it is mainly composed of fructose, glucose, and water while other components are pollen, wax, and mineral salts such as iron, sodium chloride, calcium, potassium, phosphate, and magnesium.  Historically, honey is considered an important substance in the treatment of several ailments. However, its adoption in healthcare settings is gradually gaining more relevance as scientists continue to research the mechanism of action to explain the usage for each of the ailments. For example, it...
